The Psychological Service at Moreland West Medical Centre offers a safe and supportive therapeutic space to explore mental health difficulties you may be currently experiencing. Our Clinical Psychologist, Dr Lisa Soares, is committed to helping her clients deepen their own understanding of their struggles by noticing what gets in the way of making positive change and assisting them in taking steps towards living a rich, full and meaningful life.

Lisa works with people over the age of 16 years with a wide range of issues including:

  • anxiety and mood disorders
  • perinatal adjustment issues
  • stress and life adjustment difficulties
  • relationship and family issues
  • health concerns
  • personality disorders and psychotic illnesses.

Lisa draws from a range of evidence-based therapy approaches tailored to recognise and respond to the individual needs and experiences of her clients, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy as well as other related mindfulness and behavioural-based interventions.

Your first session with Lisa will involve an assessment of your needs. By the end of the assessment, Lisa will be able to offer you some first impressions of what working together might look like. It is important for you to consider this information along with your own opinions of whether you feel comfortable working with her, as therapy involves a commitment of time, money, and energy.

Sessions are 50 minutes in duration, with the frequency depending on what works best for you and your current situation.  Medicare rebates apply ($124.50 per session) for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.  To claim a rebate you MUST have a referral letter plus a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP or psychiatrist.  If you have private health insurance that includes psychological services as extras cover you may be eligible for a partial rebate. It is recommended that you contact your individual insurance provider for further information about your individual coverage. Alternatively, you can also choose to pay the full amount out of pocket.

Lisa Soares is available on Friday’s and alternate Saturdays.
